Final Art WIP for Kezuto.
Used Complementary colours & tint variation based off of Lewis' work while keeping in mind we wanted a not-quite-blue colour. I based The clothing Colours using Complimentary colours to the scale/skin colour.
Quickly experimented with using a Koi Marking & Colour Scheme. I personally Like this scheme and though it could use more development, and it may be unusable due to the predator idea I think the scheme gives Kezuto a more Priestly/Guardian feel.
...Sorry for the stupidly late/early post....
EDIT: Changed the clothing on the Koi Design to utilise Tetradic Complimentary colours. I'm not sure about the green, Though there are other options available.
EDIT: As per Luke's comment, Changed the white to a dusty yellow to see the result, Not too sure on it myself, though your opinions are appreciated.
EDIT: Tried a different variation of the Tetradic Colour Theory and shifted purple to the main (After Orange) I prefer this result personally.
If we keep the purple foliage from Flying Cat, Then this may work in our favour.
Comments are appreciated.

I really like the Koi one, the greenish one doesn't really appeal to me so much, I know colours aren't final, so we should look at maybe changed the white to a dusty yellow? So it's not so bright and what parts of him light up? Or is it just hit scales like an octopus?
ReplyDeleteI was thinking the fins could glow (Around his neck, on his head etc). I've added some colour changes, including the one you've recommended here. What do you think?
DeleteI don't think it works well with the green, can keep trying ideas though, maybe look at dark blue and purple, and keep the Koi patterns
ReplyDeleteI agree, though I generally am not a fan of the colour green lol. Edited with a more Purple-Centric Theme
DeleteMay not be worth much now but I didn't see this until I got home. I'm really drained right now so pardon my typing.
ReplyDeleteClothing is good! I like it. Fits the character and what he's gonna do. Might want to keep an eye out for anything that might impede his swimming ability but I can't see anything there that really would.
I really do not like the orange/dusty yellow. It's just a gross mesh of saturated and desaturated colours and it hurts my eyes to look at it. It could work if the orange was a brownier shade and not quite so bright but as it stands it doesn't mesh well at all.
I prefer the koi colours and think green would work well with them (and I just scrolled up to see that's what you used, so yay), and I also like the design that uses gold instead, but...
Even if they're supposed to be unshaded: the colours in most of these are way, way too saturated. It may be because I have difficulties with looking at those sort of colours but... I literally cannot look at the orange/white/green drawing for more than a few seconds without feeling nauseous because my eyes have too much to process. Maybe it's worth experimenting with a slightly off-white and an orange that isn't the brightest, highest saturated version of that colour? Because I really do like the combination of colours, just not as they stand now.
The greens and blue are also much too bright (lime green! aaahhh!), and considering they're the clothing of a tribal species, I think they would be a lot dimmer. In all honesty, looking again, I do think the gold does work better. Even if some of the reasoning behind it is that it doesn't hurt my brain when paired with orange and white. The green just pops in the worst way possible.
I feel a bit mean now and I'm really glad you said you didn't like it because I hate green too. Lime green is hideous.
I will say that while I prefer the koi pattern, the teal and gold in the first image work together really nicely too, so if we end up heading back to that I wouldn't mind. I'd just much rather see where the koi patterning goes first.
Another thing is that I'm not saying all the colours have to be toned down. However - going by my memory, because my eyes have only now started to go back to normal and I don't want to go through that again - all or nearly all of the colours of certain designs are. It's hard to draw the eye to certain aspects of the design when everything is so bright and "look at me! Look at me!!".
DeleteI agree that the colours should be toned down to meet a more-realistic palette, this post was mostly me playing with colour theory.
DeleteI personally don't like the dusty yellow, or the greens. I used that orange because Koi are actually that vivid.
Thanks for the feedback :)
