Here's the finished fern model and UV unwrap.
Additionally, I also started experimenting with transparent planes on some advice I recieved. I threw together a very quick, simple texture with little detail to try and get it working, as I hadn't tried this technique before now.
The placement of the leaves could do with some tweaking, but I think it works for what it is. The middle section will be looked at and tidied up a little before I finish texturing.
Unfortunately, I had some issues with the transparency of the texture and will be seeking advice on how to fix it. Once I have, I'll be using this method to produce a few more variations of foliage if and when they are needed.
